Gastropin with belladonna tablet each
containing dried aluminum hydroxide gel 0.245 g, magnesium
trisilicate 0.105 g, and fluid extract of belladonna 0.0026 ml. Is
an effective gastric antacid in the treatment of peptic ulcer and
gastric hyperacidity. It has the advantages over the alkalis as an
antacid that
- Owing to its buffer function it adjusts the gastric contents with a suitable pH value, so that it neutralizes the gastric acid not immediately and does not stimulate a compensatory increase in free gastric acidity
- It does not produce carbon dioxide which distends the stomach and accelerates the perforation of the ulcer
- Owing to its property of absorption it has a local effect on the ulcerated are as providing a favorable environment for the healing of the ulcer
- After the continual administration it does not produce alkalosis, diarrhea, constipation, interference of peptic digestion or any other ill effect
Directions
2-4 tablets one hour before meals and
if necessary 2 tablets more one hour after meals or as directed by
the physician
